Boilermaker Women Finish Day One Of Quad Meet

MADISON, Wis. - The Purdue women's swim team finished in third place, against Big Ten opponents Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin, ending the first day of Quad Meet competition at the UW Natatorium. Minnesota leads the meet, Wisconsin falls in second and Illinois is fourth. Purdue's point totals are as follows: Wisconsin 126, Purdue 59, Minnesota 110, Purdue 76, Purdue 116, Illinois 69.

In the relay events, the Boilermakers finished with a second place in 1:47.35 in the 200 medley relay and a third place in the 800 free relay. Team members of the 200 medley relay were sophomores Lisa Dolansky, Lindsay Lange and Patricia Finnerty and senior Missy Bromley. Team members of the 800 free relay were sophomore Kim Paradeise, Dolansky, junior Katie Mullarkey and senior Gyongyver Lakos.

In the 1000 free, Purdue's Kelly Mackus, a junior, finished with a time of 10:30.78 for a sixth-place finish. Freshman Lindsay Kirchoff finished in 10:58.98 for eighth place.

For the first time this season, senior Gyongyver Lakos was defeated in the 200 free. Lakos finished in 1:51.65 for fourth place. Paradeise tallied a time of 1:54.17 for eighth place and Mullarkey came in 12th with a time of 1:55.72.

Dolansky garnered a third-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 58.20 while freshman teammate Jenni Bean finished in 59.86 for 12th place.

In the 100 breast, senior Brianna Reina finished with a time of 1:06.31 for third place. Lange fell in close behind for a fifth-place finish and a time of 1:07.01. Junior teammate Ronica Rogalski was also not far behind and tallied a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:07.10.

The 50 free proved to be several close finishes, but Bromley was able to fight her way through for a fourth-place finish with a time of 24.57. Lange also competed for the Boilermakers and came away with 10th place and a time of 24.87.

In the 200 individual medley, Bean took fourth place with a time of 2:09.18. Freshman Autumn Sample was not far behind, finishing in 2:09.52, for sixth place.

In three-meter diving, Purdue's Molly MadFarlane took fourth-place, overall, while teammates Kara Hajek finished fifth, Carrie Dougherty finished 12th and Heather Bachman finished 14th.

The Boilermakers will look to build on today's success when they return to the UW Natatorium for day two of the Quad Meet, Saturday at noon.
