Purdue Men's Swimming Continues Run At Texas A&M Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Purdue men's swim team continued its great run at the Texas A&M Invitational in Day Two to raise the point total to 1,064. The Boilermakers stand behind Stanford and host Texas A&M to remain in third place.

"This has definitely been our best meet of the fall," Purdue men's swim coach Dan Ross said. "We're very happy to be in third place with Penn State not far behind us. The competition here is good and solid. This has been a great experience for our guys and we've had tremendous individual efforts."

In the first event of the evening's finals competition, the 200 medley relay team of senior John Wakefield, freshman Tamas Bessenyei, junior Donovan Crowley and senior Dave Weis recorded a third place finish and a new season-best time of 1:30.78.

Senior Matt Martin recorded a time of 3:57.40 for a fourth place finish in the 400 Individual Medley and sophomore Tad Sayce swam a 4:00.64 for an eighth place finish. Both put themselves onto the Purdue Top Times list for the season with personal best times.

In the 100 butterfly, senior Matt Garrison recorded a time of 50.31 for a 10th place finish. Crowley was not far behind, receiving a 12th place finish with a time of 50.73.

The Old Gold and Black took a ninth place finish with sophomore Jeremy Wright's time of 1:41.21 in the 200 freestyle. Purdue also took the 13th-16th place finishes. Freshman Kyle Jackson finished with a personal-best time of 1:42:15 for 13th place.

In the 100 breaststroke, Purdue's Big Ten Athlete of the Week, Bessenyei, finished first in the field with a time of 55.38 for a new season-best. Crowley finished eighth with a new personal-best time of 58.14 to move into second place on the Boilermakers' leader board.

Purdue will return to action when it continues into Day Three of the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 18. The preliminary rounds will begin at 9 a.m. and the finals will begin at 6 p.m. Events in the final day include: 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, platform diving, and the 400 freestyle relay.
