CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Purdue women's soccer team dropped its fourth game of the Big Ten season today with a 3-0 loss to the Illini of Illinois. The Boilermakers' record now stands at 9-5 on the season (4-4 Big Ten). The Illini's record improves to 9-5 on the season (5-3 Big Ten).

"We played a really good team," Purdue head coach Rob Klatte said. "They're a very fast paced team that came out and set the tempo immediately. Unfortunately, we didn't capitalize on our opportunities and we gave them several quality chances. All in all, Illinois deserved the victory but I believe that this loss is an excellent learning experience for our team."

The Illini scored first at the 20:42 mark when Purdue's Kerry Maloney tallied her third yellow card of the season. Illinois' Colleen Joyce received a penalty kick to net the first goal of the game.

The Illini's second goal then came only seven minutes later at the 27:37 mark as junior Lisa Baldwin nailed a wide goal from the right.

Then on a breakaway at 39:45, Illinois' Laura Freeman took goalkeeper Elizabeth Boldt on, one-on-one and netted the Illini's third goal of the night.

Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Boldt played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Boilermakers, facing 18 shots and allowing three goals. Her record currently stands at 9-5.

"Looking toward Sunday, we'll have to be capable of focusing for a full 90 minutes if we hope to garner the three points that are up for grabs," said Klatte.

The Boilermakers will be back in action on Sunday at Iowa as they look to secure their spot in the Big Ten Tournament. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
