Women's Golf in Fourth Place After Day One

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 18 ranked Purdue women's golf team battled gusty winds for a first round 298 (+10) at the NCAA Championships in Sunriver, Oregon. The championships are being played at the Crosswater Course, which is a par 72 6,502 yards.

After a solid performance at regionals, Heather Zielinski continued her stellar play as a freshman with a 1-over-par 73, leaving her in a tie for 10th place. Senior Big Ten Female Golfer of the Year Stacy Orschell fired a 74 (+2) and stands in a 20th-place tie, while Kari Damron carded a 75 and is tied for 29th. Sophomore Andrea Makauskas shot a 76 to complete the Old Gold & Black score of 298. Sophomore Christy Rittenhouse, competing in her first NCAA Championship, recorded a score of 79 in the first round.

The University of Oregon holds the lead after day one with a 295 (+7) with Texas (296, +8), Georgia (296, +8), Ohio State (298, +10), Purdue (298, +10) rounding out the top five. The top four teams all went in the morning and faced light winds.

Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa has the individual lead with a 69. Duke will be teeing off on Thursday at 9:00 AM and ESPN2 will be covering the competition Thursday and Friday live from 12-2:00 PM. All times listed are Pacific.
