WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's swim team finished in 27th place at the NCAA National Championship meet in Minneapolis, Minn., over the weekend. Powered by impressive performances by junior Matt Martin and senior Dan Kleber the Boilers were able to improve four spots over their 31st place finish a year ago.
"Both of our guys swam great," coach Dan Ross said. "We set a goal at the beginning of the year for a top 30 spot and these two guys went out and earned it. I admire the performances of these two, they had to wait for the final day to swim their events and performed better than they were seeded."
Martin was the top finisher for Purdue, seeded ninth, he claimed an eighth-place finish in the 1,500-meter free in a time of 14:59.97. The finish earned him All-America honors. Kleber, seeded 21st in the 200-meter butterfly, improved all the way up to 12th to earn honorable mention All-American.
