Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 To Illinois

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell 5-2 Saturday to Illinois. The Boilermakers fall to 6-7 (1-2 Big Ten), while the Fighting Illini improve to 6-8, and 3-0 in the conference.

In doubles action, Lynsey Fick and Lisa Walgenbach were ready for action at the No. 2 position. The duo was able to knock off Simone Kung and Michelle Webb with little effort in a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Seniors Jennifer Embry and Shannon Taheny fought hard for a win at the No. 1 doubles spot, but Brooke Ferney and Natascha Loebnitz hung on to defeat the seniors 9-8 (6).

Embry began the singles lineup for Purdue at No. 1, and was able to pick up a 7-5, 1-0 (ret.) victory over Eldina Fazlic. At No. 4, Melissa Iqbal handed Natascha Loebnitz a 6-2, 6-4 loss. The Boilers were unable to pick up another victory.

Purdue's conference roadtrip continues, as it prepares to face No. 13 Northwestern on Sunday.
