Jan. 29, 2000

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's swimming and diving team went down in defeat Saturday to Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota at the Big Ten quad meet in Minneapolis, Minn. The Boilermakers (6-3, 4-3 Big Ten) lost 235-117 to No. 14 Minnesota, 194.5-156.5 to No. 13 Wisconsin and 202-150 to Illinois.

"We were very flat today," coach Cathy Wright-Eger said. "We knew coming into the meet that it was going to be very competitive and we would have to be mentally tough, today we had a let down. Lisa Dolansky, Lindsay Lange and Shannon Funk all had very impressive meets and came through for us. Now we've got to go back and figure out why, after such an impressive first day, we came out so flat today. We're going to concentrate on the areas we know we can improve and work hard right up to Big Ten's."

Lisa Dolansky swam a lifetime best 2:05.62 in the 200 backstroke, which placed her fifth overall and second against both Illinois and Minnesota and third against Wisconsin. She also finished second overall in the 100 back with a season best time of 57.13. Lindsay Lange had season best times in both the 100 and 200 breast, swimming a 1:04.83 and 2:26.75, respectively. Shannon Funk swam in five events over the course of the two day meet setting four season best times in the 1000 free, 200 IM, 400IM and 200 back. Diver Molly Macfarlane had an outstanding weekend placing third overall in both the one and three-meter diving competitions and first against both Wisconsin and Illinois.

The Boilermakers are off until hosting the Big Ten Championships Feb. 17-19 in Indianapolis.
