Boilers Take Final Exhibition Game, 80-61, Over Cimeba

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Brian Cardinal scored 17 points as preseason No. 23 Purdue concluded its two-game exhibition season Sunday with an 80-61 win over the Cimeba (Mexico) All- Stars.

Mike Robinson added 14 points and five rebounds for Purdue, which opens its regular season Nov. 22 against Chaminade in the Maui Invitational. Rodney Smith scored 12 points and Carson Cunnigham added 11.

Smith was 4-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range.

Cimeba was led by Ken Leeks' game-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Brenton Moore chipped in 13 points and Erick Lanford had 12.

The Boilermakers broke the game open early in the second half, outscoring Cimeba 11-3 in the first four minutes to lead 49-28 on Brian Cardinal's 3-point play with 16:11 remaining.

Purdue enjoyed its largest second-half lead with 7:16 remaining when Cunnigham drilled a 3-pointer to make it 68-53 Boilermakers. A 7-0 run late in the first half gave Purdue a 38-25 halftime lead.

The Boilermakers hit 27-of-49 from the floor for 55.1 percent, including 11-of-20 from 3-point range for 55 percent.
