Boilers Suffer Setback to Golden Eagles

Oct. 24, 1999

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer team (7-10-0, 2-8-0 Big Ten) lost 1-0 to Oral Roberts (9-8-0) today in front of 275 chilly fans at the Purdue Varsity Soccer Complex.

For the second straight contest, Purdue was unable to mount any type of offense getting out shot 11-6 overall, and 9-3 on shots on goal. Today's shutout loss was the eighth for the Boilermakers this season.

"I was a little disappointed with our performance today," Purdue coach Robert Klatte said. "For the first 60-plus minutes, we came out flat. It was only after they scored the goal did we seem to play with any energy." Oral Roberts scored the game-winner at 76:09 on a score by Carrie Harrison. With the ball in the Purdue defensive corner, Oral Roberts crossed the ball into the box and the Boilers defense was unable to clear the ball out of the zone, Harrison was able to get a foot on it and slide it past a diving Jocelyn Cavalier.

Late in the contest, Purdue applied quite a bit of pressure, but was unable to convert.

In the first half, they battled to a 0-0 tie with Oral Roberts holding a 2-1 advantage on shots on goal. The best scoring opportunity for both teams belonged to the Golden Eagles at 20:30, when a free kick was headed by Cora Allegranza only to be denied by Cavalier with a diving save. Purdue closes out its home regular season on Friday when it hosts the 20th-ranked Missouri Tigers at 1 p.m. The contest will mark the last home match for seniors Ann Streepey, Jennie Schurr and Karah Henderson.

"Hopefully this week we will have a good of practice and we can send the seniors out on a good note," Klatte said. "Playing against a nationally ranked team like Missouri at home is a good step for this team as we build to become one of those teams."
