Boilers Impressive In First Day Of Lady Northern

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team had an impressive showing in the first day of the Lady Northern Golf Tournament, held in Madison, Wisc., today. After a full day of competition, the Boilers stand in second-place with a score of 303, one stroke behind leader Northwestern.

The most impressive showing of the day came from Purdue's Stacy Orschell. The senior from Connersville, Ind., finished at the top of the list after the first day of competition, with a first-round 71, tied with Andrea Meeker of the hometown Badgers. Orschell topped her previous low-round score of 73. Following Orschell is freshman Kari Damron. The newcomer shot a first-round 75 to tie for ninth-place in the competitive tournament. Following Damron was Makauskas at 20th (78), Lisa Kenley was 25th (79), Katie Kisinger at 34th (81) and Heather Zielinksi who finished the day at 44th, with a first-round 82.

The Boilers will look to take the lead in this highly contested tournament tomorrow afternoon, as the Lady Northern will continue, and conclude on Sunday, Sept., 19.
