Women's Soccer Dispatches Oakland in Exhibition

Aug. 21, 1999

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Purdue women's soccer team has started the 1999 season off on the right foot with a 3-1 exhibition victory over Oakland (Mich.) on Saturday. The Boilermakers used three unanswered goals by three sophomores to defeat the Pioneers.

Oakland took an early 1-0 lead with a goal only four minutes into the game, but the advantage didn't last long, as Purdue sophomore Tari St.John took a crossing pass from freshman Debbie Chirlin and drilled it into the back of the net a minute later to tie the score at 1-1. The score remained knotted until the second half when sophomore Jenny Reek fed Kerry Maloney for the go-ahead goal during the 25th minute. Sophomore Kate Queen added an insurance goal in the 31st minute on a penalty kick.

Purdue will now prepare for the season opener at Dayton on Aug. 27 at 7:30.
