WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team dropped its second match of the weekend, falling 6-1 to Illinois at the Lafayette Sports Center today. The Boilermakers are now 7-13 (3-5 Big Ten), while the Fighting Illini improve to 10-9 (5-3 Big Ten). This was Illinois' fourth consecutive victory.
Jennifer Embry provided a bright spot for the Boilermakers. The junior co-captain was Purdue's lone singles winner and teamed up with freshman Missy Wright to pick up the Boilers' only doubles win. Embry downed Simone Kung 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, while she and Wright knocked off Brooke Ferney and Carla Rosenberg 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Embry's singles victory was the 64th in her career, moving her into eighth place on the all-time wins list.
This was Purdue's final home match of the season. The Boilermakers will travel to Wisconsin (April 24) and Iowa (April 25) for matches next weekend to conclude the regular season. Following those dual matches, the Boilers will compete in the Big Ten Championships at East Lansing, Mich.
