Men's Tennis Drops Central Flordia in Orlando

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team bounced back from its first defeat of the season on Saturday to the high-powered Florida Gators, by dropping the Central Florida Knights 5-1 at the UCF Tennis Complex in Orlando, Fla today. With the win, the Boilers improve to 7-1, while the Knights fall to 8-3.

The Boilers got things started on the right foot, taking the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. At the No. 1 doubles slot, the team of freshman Laith Al-Agba and senior Derek Myers dropped the team of Federico Camacho and Greg Novak 8-3. In the No. 2 spot, senior Cris James and sophomore Jason Marshall defeated William Guerin and David Winberg 8-3, while the team of senior Jamie Gordon and sophomore Dan Swan remained unbeaten with an 8-5 victory over CF's team of Martinez and Pedro Pacheco. The combo of Gordon/Swan now stand at 7-0 on the season.

In singles action, four of the five matches that were completed went the full three sets. At No. 2 singles, Myers disposed of Winberg in a tiebreaker 6-4, 1-6, 7-6. James in at No. 3 singles, had a battle on his hands, but held on for a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Camacho. Marshall slipped past Novak at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 and freshman Derek Miller handed Johan Westin his third loss this season, a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, decision at No. 6.

Purdue will return to the courts on March 6th when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to do battle with the Cardinals of Louisville at 1 p.m.
