Men's Tennis Downs Western Michigan to Remain Undefeated

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team remained undefeated with a 6-1 victory against Western Michigan at the Lafayette Sports Center today. The victory ups the Boilers' record to 4-0 (1-0 Big Ten), while the Broncos fall to 4-5.

Purdue seniors Jamie Gordon and Derek Myers kept their win streaks intact with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 singles positions, respectively. Gordon downed Ryan Tomlinson 7-5, 6-4, and Myers knocked off Fernando Garcia 6-0, 6-2. Junior Cade Lutz picked up a straight set victory, as well, defeating Steve Pillon 6-2, 7-6 at No. 4. Freshman Derek Miller won his third match this spring with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Kyle Gernhofer at No. 5. And junior Evan Hays won 6-1, 6-4 against Jeff Brink at No. 6. Senior Cris James, who is nursing a shoulder injury, was the only Purdue player to drop his singles match, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Mo Dakki at No. 2.

The Boilermakers swept doubles, with all three teams winning by scores of 8-6. Myers and rookie Laith Al-Agba defeated Pillon and Tomlinson at No. 1. Gordon and sophomore Dan Swan beat Dakki and Brink at No. 2. Miller and junior Tushaar Gautam defeated Gernhofer and Demian Pons at No. 3.

This was Purdue's first match of a doubleheader today. The Boilermakers face Miami (Ohio) in the second, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
