WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team finished 13th out of 15 teams in the 29th annual Kepler Intercollegiate golf tournament this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The Northwestern Wildcats, tied with Wisconsin for the team lead following Saturday's first round action, shot 298 in Sunday's final round to pull away and capture the team championship by eight strokes over the Badgers.
Despite their ninth-place position after two rounds on Saturday with a score of 620, the Boilermakers shot a disappointing 309 in the third round on Sunday in slipping to 13th place (929). Sophomore Ryan Miller, tied for 15th after Saturday's action, led Purdue as he finished tied for ninth with a nine-over-par 225. Freshman Lee Williamson tied with three others for 30th place with a 15-over-par 231, while senior Bert Jones finished tied for 49th (236), junior Ryan Cate finished 53rd (238) and freshman Jason Bukowski was tied for 54th (239).
Northwestern sophomore Luke Donald, who is ranked No. 1 in the GolfStat Cup for the nation's lowest scoring average, fired a final-round 69 to move past Wisconsin's C.J. Brock, to claim the individual title by a four-stroke margin.
