February 18, 1999

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 43rd-ranked Purdue women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to No. 23 Kentucky on Feb. 17 in Lexington. This is the first loss the Boilermakers (3-1) have suffered this spring. The Wildcats, meanwhile, remained undefeated at 5-0.

The biggest Boilermaker victory of the match was provided by junior Jennifer Embry and freshman Missy Wright. This duo, which makes up the Boilers' top doubles team, defeated 13th-ranked Kelly Brown and Massoumeh Emami 9-8. Embry and Wright are currently unranked.

Embry and Wright were singles winnners, as well. Embry defeated Kentucky's Carolina Mayorga 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot, while Wright beat Brooke Skeen 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 at the No. 5 position. Purdue's fourth point came from an 8-3 doubles win by junior Shannon Taheny and sophomore Lisa Walgenbach over Kentucky's Rookledge/Mayorga pair.
