Boilers Lose Hard Fought Match to Arizona, 4-3

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 35th-ranked Purdue men's tennis team lost a hard fought mach to the 52nd-ranked Arizona Wildcats on March 19, at the University of Arizona. The Boilers fall to 9-2 on the season with the 4-3 loss.

The Boilers struggled early, with losses at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, but fought back at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. Following the defeat of sophomore Jason Marshall and senior Derek Myers, seniors Jamie Gordon and Cris James both posted victories. James, currently ranked 50th in the nation, won a difficult match against Arizona's Michel Stopa at the No. 4 position, 6-4, 4-6, 4-4 ret. The tandem of Gordon and James managed Purdue's only two singles' points of the day.

The Boiler's also took the doubles point, as Gordon and sophomore Dan Swan defeated Alex Brown and Stopa, 8-3. Purdue would follow that with an impressive performance by the doubles team of Marshall and freshman Laith Al-Agba. The duo defeated the Wildcats doubles team 8-4.

The Boiler netters will return to action March 27, as they face the Penn State Nittany Lions in State College, Pa.
