TUSCON, Ariz. - The Purdue women's golf team finished the Arizona Invitational in seventh place with a 54-hole score of 888, 24-over-par. The host Arizona Wildcats came from behind to win by nine strokes. The Wildcats shot 281 in the final round of the three-day tournament, bringing their total to 854, 34 shots better than the Boilermakers at the Randolph Park G.C. (Par 72, 6,003 yards).
Top-ranked Duke held a one-stroke lead heading into the final round of play, but the Blue Devils fall off the pace shooting a 297, bringing their three-day total to 869. Duke finished fourth behind Arizona, Tulsa and Arizona State.
Senior Angela Blythe led the Boilers with a three-under-par 213, putting her in a three-way tie for fifth place. After shooting a 73 on Monday, Blythe lit up the course with a career-best 68 on Tuesday. She finished off an impressive couple of days by shooting an even-par 72 on the last day of competition. Junior Stacy Orschell and freshman Andrea Makauskas finished tied for 46th with 54-hole scores of 227. Freshman Christy Rittenhouse tied for 50th with a three-day score of 228, while junior Lisa Kenley tied for 59th with a 230.
Purdue will next travel to Miami, Fla., for the Casa del Campo Classic on March 5-6.
