Boilers Finish Ninth in Dominican Republic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team finished the Casa de Campo Ladies Intercollegiate Tournament in ninth place after a 54-hole score of 971. The tournament was held at the beautiful Pete Dye designed "Teeth of the Dog" course on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. The course is ranked 23rd in the world by Golf Magazine.

Senior Angela Blythe, ranked 47th in the latest MasterCard individual rankings, fired a 77 today to lead the Boilers with a 236, tying her with four other players for 6th place. Blythe's third-round score tied with two other ladies for the second lowest round of the day. Freshman Andrea Makauskas finished second on the Boiler squad with a 54-hole score of 245, while freshman Christy Rittenhouse shot a 246 and junior Stacy Orschell, ranked 99th in the nation, carded a 250. The other Boiler competing was junior Lisa Kenley who shot a three-round score of 259.

South Carolina, who collectively shot a three-round score of 938, won the 13-team tournament by three strokes. The Gamecocks entered the final round in third place. Tennessee finished in second at 941, while Atlantic Coast Conference members Wake Forest and Florida State tied for third at 950. Central Florida rounded out the top five with a two-day score of 959. The host Miami Hurricanes placed sixth, with Vanderbilt and North Carolina tying for the seventh spot and Purdue in ninth.

Individually, South Carolina's Lotte Moeller carded a three-round score of 229 to claim the individual title by two strokes. Moeller blistered the course on its final day with a score on 71 to seize the title.

The Purdue women will now travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., and participate in the Mad Matter at the Pelican Bay Golf Course on March 20-21. The tournament is hosted Stetson University.
