March 19, 1999

HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Senior first baseman Ryan Cole's solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Purdue baseball team a 6-5 victory over Rider on Thursday in Homestead, Fla.

The Boilers entered the ninth inning with a 5-2 lead, but the Broncs scored three runs in the inning to tie the game. Rider threatened in the 10th inning with a lead-off triple by designated hitter Dave Apollon. However, Purdue freshman Matt Skripsky induced a ground out and struck out two batters to hold the Broncs scoreless.

Cole followed by leading off the 10th with his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, to give Purdue a one-run victory. He finished the game with two hits.

Junior southpaw Russ Morgan turned in his third consecutive impressive performance. Morgan allowed only five hits and four earned runs in eight innings, while striking out eight and walking one.

Junior Erik Frei went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while junior Daryl Hallada drove in a run on two hits. Sophomore Mike Rose had a single and two RBI for Purdue.

The Boilers are currently 4-9 and will face Iona at 10 a.m. on Friday in Boca Raton, Fla.
