WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women maintained its second-place position on Sunday at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio at the Scarlet Golf Course. The Boilermakers, second going into the final round, collectively shot 307 on the final round of the tournament and took 929 total strokes during the three-round event. Purdue finished 22 strokes behind two-time defending champion and tournament host Ohio State. Fourteen teams competed on the par 72 6,037 yard course.
Leading the way the entire weekend for Purdue and claiming medalist honors was senior Angela Blythe. A native of Evansville, Ind., Blythe shot a four-over par 220 to win her second tournament of the year by one stroke over Ohio State's Amber Amstutz. Last month, Blythe tied Kent's Cheryl Tooshkenig for medalist honors at the Hatter Spring Fling in Daytona Beach. For the weekend, she fired rounds of 75-72 and 73 on the par 72 course to win the invitational. The Boilers had another golfer in the top 10, as freshman Andrea Makauskas placed 10th with a three-round score of 234. This was also the second time this spring that Makauskas has broken the top 10, as the Toronto, Ontario, native placed tied for fourth at the Mad Hatter. Junior Lisa Kenley placed tied 13th with a 236, improving her score at least two strokes over the final two rounds, while junior Stacy Orschell tied for 39th place with a 244. The final two Boilermakers competing this weekend were redshirt freshman Andrea Quandt and junior Kelly Beth Simmons, who placed tied for 61st and 67th with scores of 257 and 261, respectively.
Purdue returns to action on Friday, April 30, at the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette at the newly redesigned Kampen Course.
