News and notes on Purdue Athletics

Wally Becker joined the Purdue Athletics staff in 2012 and was promoted to associate director of strength & conditioning in 2017. He coordinates the strength & conditioning programs for soccer and track & field, while overseeing baseball, softball and wrestling. He also serves as the Mollenkopf Athletic Center weight room manager and intern development coordinator.

Becker came to Purdue after serving as the assistant strength & conditioning coach/professional intern at the University of Evansville. At Evansville, his responsibilities included direct oversight of the strength & conditioning programs for softball, men's and women's golf and tennis, as well as assisting with all other athletic teams.

He received a bachelor's degree in health promotion and wellness from Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a master's in exercise science from Ball State. While at Ball State, he served as a volunteer graduate assistant in the strength & conditioning department, where he was in charge of coordinating the strength & conditioning programs for women's soccer, golf and tennis, in addition to assisting with other athletic teams.

Becker has completed strength & conditioning internships at Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

He is a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. He also is certified in First Aid and CPR through the American Red Cross.
