DEFENDING CHAMPS
- Led by medalist Natasha Kiel, who earned her third individual victory of the season, Purdue captured last year’s Coach Mo Classic at St. Johns Golf and Country Club (March 31-April 1, 2025).
- The Boilermakers (+13) led wire-to-wire all three rounds, besting 15 other teams and claiming a four-shot victory over runner-up Charleston (+17).
- The victory, Purdue's second of the year, marked the first time the Boilermakers have won multiple tournaments in consecutive seasons since a six-year stretch from the fall of 2005 to the spring of 2011.
- The Boilermakers paced the field in birdies (38), par-3 scoring (+3) and par-4 scoring (+27) as well as eagles (2) thanks to a pair of aces from Kiel and Samantha Brown on the first day of tournament play.
- Momo Sugiyama (+5) tied for eighth to crack the Top 10 for the fourth time this season and the 12th time in her career. Joining Kiel and Sugiyama in the Top 10 was fellow senior Jocelyn Bruch, who tied for 10th at 6-over. She made 11 birdies over three rounds to match Kiel and rank second in the field.
- Brown (+8) tied for 16th, the best finish for the freshman Boilermaker that year.
BACK-TO-BACK FRESHMEN OF THE WEEK
- After recording the best 36-hole tournament total by a freshman in Purdue Women’s Golf history, Ida Lindqvist was named the Big Ten Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Friday morning (March 20).
- For the second straight week, a Boilermaker earned the league’s weekly accolade; Luana Valero collected the honor one week prior.
- Lindqvist earned her first career Big Ten award after playing in only the sixth tournament of her collegiate career. Competing as an individual at the Briar’s Creek Invitational, she broke a school record for 36-hole total by a freshman (70-74—144), besting Valero’s score of 146 (74-72) at the Shootout at Wachesaw.
- She fired a career-low 70 (-2) in a first round that featured back-to-back eagles, becoming the only golfer in the 87-player field to record multiple eagles throughout the tournament. Lindqvist added a final round 74 (+2) to set the new freshman mark. Her even-par finish matched Samantha Brown for 16th place on the individual leaderboard and tied for the 10th-lowest 36-hole total by any Boilermaker in history.
- Purdue has had three Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades throughout the 2025-26 campaign, two for Valero and one for Lindqvist.
BROWN AT BRIAR’S CREEK
- Last time out, Samantha Brown fired a 1-under 71 in the final round, leading Purdue to a seventh-place finish in the 15-team Briar’s Creek Invitational. The Boilermakers carded a 293 (+5) for the second straight day to secure the eighth-best 36-hole team total in program history (293-293—586).

WINNING WITH BYRD AND GUIAO
- Purdue Women’s Golf is in its fourth season under the leadership of head coach Zack Byrd and assistant coach Lauren Guiao. Over the past three years, the dynamic duo has brought the winning tradition back to West Lafayette.
- Purdue has won five tournaments under Byrd and Guiao, the most in a three-year span since winning six from 2012-14.
- After starting off the 2024-25 season with a win at the Boilermaker Classic, a victory at the Coach Mo Classic gave the Boilermakers multiple tournament wins in consecutive seasons for the first time since a six-year stretch from the fall of 2005 to the spring of 2011.
- Purdue has also claimed victories at the 2023 Boilermaker Classic, the 2023 Tulane Classic and the 2023 Mary Fossum Invitational with Byrd at the helm.
- The Boilermakers have advanced to nationals in each of the past two seasons. With the men making the NCAA Championships as well, Purdue is the only Big Ten school and one of only seven programs nationally to send both men’s and women’s teams to the national stage the past two years.
- Purdue collected just one tournament title in the five seasons prior to Byrd's arrival.
A LOOK AT THE REST OF THE SPRING
- Serving as the final tune-up before the conference championship, Purdue welcomes teams back to West Lafayette for the Boilermaker Spring Classic. The spring tournament will take place on the Ackerman-Allen course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (April 12-13).
- After venturing to the east coast the past two years to compete for a conference title, Purdue travels more than 2,000 miles for the 2026 Big Ten Championships. The league tournament is set to take place at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, California (April 24-26).
- Rounding out the schedule, the Boilermakers plan to hear their names called for postseason play in one of six NCAA Regionals (May 11-13) with sights set on a third straight trip to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California (May 22-27).
