Malaski Earns Bronze, Vessat Breaks Records at B1G Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Purdue Track & Field’s second day of the Big Ten Indoor Championships was highlighted by Seamus Malaski’s bronze medal finish in the weight throw and Samuel Vessat’s record-breaking 400m performance.

Men’s Notes
• Vessat ran 45.38 to break the indoor French record, school record and Fall Creek Pavilion facility record. He entered Friday already holding the Purdue record and was third in French short track history. The performance also is top five in the NCAA this season. Vessat holds the No. 1 spot in Saturday’s final.
• Malaski earned Purdue’s first medal of the championships after he threw 22.52m (73-10.75) to finish third. The mark now puts Malaski top 15 in the NCAA and moved him up to second in Purdue history.
Warner Papillion totaled 5,161 points in the heptathlon to move his program ranking up one spot to eighth. He was 10th at the B1G Championships and was the third-best freshman finisher.
Hugh Jacobsmeyer concluded his season 12th out of 27 competitors in the 800m (1:48.94).

Women’s Notes
Zoe Sullivan qualified for the 60mH finals after she finished fifth in the prelims (8.19). She is in position to score points in the event for a third consecutive Big Ten Indoor Championships.
Britannie Johnson qualified for the weight throw finals and finished ninth (21.24m / 69-08.25). She will throw the shot put on Saturday to conclude her championships.
Alexa Adams ran 8.48 in the 60mH to finish 10th and fell just two places shy of qualifying for the finals in her first Big Ten Championships.
Jubilee Felder finished tied for 10th in the high jump after she cleared 1.70m (5-07.00).
