INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Purdue Track & Field took two event victories by Seamus Malaski (shot put) and Katherine Valentine (mile) on the final day of the Crossroads of America Invitational.
Men’s Notes
• Malaski earned his second consecutive victory in the shot put after he threw 18.02m (59-01.50). He is making a name for himself early in his career with top five finishes in all six of his competitions, including four top two finishes, between shot put and weight throw.
• Joel Gates finished fourth in the shot put (17.10m / 56-01.25) in just his third collegiate indoor competition.
• Kiefer Bell (4:06.88), High Jacobsmeyer (4:07.84) and Douglas Buckeridge (4:08.27) took fifth, seventh and eighth in the mile.
• Zion Jackson took sixth in the 60mH finals (8.12) after he ran 8.10 yesterday in the prelims.
Women’s Notes
• Valentine won the mile in 4:50.56 for the second fastest time in the event by a Purdue freshman since at least 2009. She has wins in back-to-back weeks after taking the 800m victory last Saturday in her indoor collegiate debut.
• Britannie Johnson took second in the shot put (15.01m / 49-03.00) and finished top two in both of her events at the Crossroads of America Invitational. She has four top three finishes so far this season.
• Blessing Gideon entered Purdue’s program rankings at No. 10 in the triple jump (12.49m / 40-11.75) and was the runner-up on Saturday. The mark is the third furthest by a Boilermaker in the last 10 years.
• Julia Economou (4:55.06), Lauren Pegher (4:55.19) and Elizabeth Butler (4:59.63) finished third, fourth and seventh in the mile. Ally Wigand (5:04.23) and Sofia Munoz (5:05.65) took the ninth and 10th spots.
• Caliyah Wallace ran 55.28 to finish sixth in her first open 400m as a Boilermaker.

Angeline Amefia and Leena Pfister will complete in the pentathlon and Warner Papillion will compete in the heptathlon at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational (Jan. 30-31) hosted by Kansas State.
