PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Purdue Wrestling fell 24-9 at Rutgers to close an extensive road stretch on Sunday afternoon.
The Scarlet Knights (7-4, 1-2 B1G), ranked No. 16 in the dual rankings and No. 21 in tournament rankings, took seven of 10 matches in Jersey Mike’s Arena.
The shorthanded Boilermakers (8-3, 1-2 B1G) wrestled hard against a Rutgers squad boasting nine ranked stars, picking up two ranked victories and three match wins total.
Blake Boarman (133 lbs) shook off a tough stretch and got back to his normal game with a 4-1 win in sudden-victory over No. 26 Dylan Shawver.
The redshirt senior from Evansville, Ind., was neck-and-neck after three periods before exploding into a double-leg for the match-winning takedown.
That's how you close a road trip 💪@BoarmanBlake upsets #26 Dylan Shawver in an OT thriller!

Wrestling in his home state of New Jersey, freshman Vincent Paino, typically a 133-pounder, picked up a clutch 7-6 victory at 141 over Mason Gibson. Grappling from an advantageous position late in the third, Paino stayed patient and won a long scramble to score the decisive takedown.
Boarman and Paino became the third and fourth Boilermakers this weekend to pick up their first career Big Ten dual wins.

No. 17 Brody Baumann (174) won arguably the biggest match of the day over No. 10 Lenny Pinto, a three-time NCAA qualifier. After suffering a technical fall loss to the former Cornhusker a year ago, Baumann has fully transformed into a conference threat in his redshirt junior season.
Following in Paino’s footsteps, Baumann scored a takedown in the final seconds and stayed on top to clinch the win. It was his first over a top-10 foe in four seasons of college wrestling.
Some of the best stuff we've seen yet from @brodybaumann1.
