Boilers to Split Between Indianapolis and Lubbock

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Track & Field has its first split squad weekend of the season with trips to the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas (Jan. 16-17) and the Hoosier Horsepower Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. (Jan. 17).

Purdue’s sprints, hurdles, jumps and throws will participate at the Corky Classic and six Boilers, four men’s and two women’s, will run in the 800m at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic. 

Men’s Notes
Seamus Malaski opened his collegiate career with a second-place finish in the shot put (18.33m / 60-01.75) and fifth-place finish in the weight throw (20.82m / 68-03.75) at the Rod McCravy Memorial. Malaski is one of three athletes to rank top 20 nationally in both the shot put (16th) and weight throw (19th).
Kamryn Harry ran the sixth-fastest 300m time by a freshman this season (33.51) in his collegiate debut. It was the fastest time by a Purdue freshman since at least 2009.
Elliot Ryba finished fourth in the high jump (2.05m / 6-08.75) in his collegiate debut at the Rod McCravy Memorial.
Zyan Greene and Samuel Vessat ran 21.40 and 21.42 in the 200m, respectively, in their Purdue debuts. Both are scheduled to run the 400m in Lubbock. Greene is an NJCAA All-American and Vessat is a Division II All-American in the event.
Kiefer Bell, Daniel Emmert, Hugh Jacobsmeyer and Quintin Lowe will all run the 800m in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Women’s Notes
Britannie Johnson threw the No. 7 shot put (15.57m / 51-01.00) and No. 10 weight throw (19.16m / 62-10.50) in Purdue history. Both marks are currently top 30 in the country.
Alexia Smith took second in the 200m (24.07) in her season debut. She is scheduled to run the 400m, an event she holds the No. 4 spot in Purdue history (52.88).
Zoe Sullivan qualified for the finals in the 60mH and finished third (8.26).
Alexa Adams ran the No. 10 time nationally by a freshman in the 60mH (8.46) and was just 0.03 seconds shy of entering Purdue’s top 10.
Jubilee Felder became the fourth Purdue freshman in the last 15 years to clear 1.70m (5-07.00) in the high jump.
Sofia Munoz and Katherine Valentine will both run the 800m in Indianapolis on Saturday.
