WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball begins its nine-game April homestand Tuesday with a midweek rematch against an Indiana State team that has also already reached the 20-win mark for the season.

First pitch at Alexander Field is slated for 6 p.m. ET as a $3 midweek matchup. General admission tickets, hot dogs, beers, popcorn and nachos are specially priced at $3. It's also the first of three Trading Card Tuesday giveaway days this month. Michigan State, Ball State, East Tennessee State and Evansville also visit West Lafayette during the Boilermakers' second-longest homestand of the season.

Purdue posted its 20th win of the season Sunday (April 7) while completing a series sweep at Rutgers. The Sycamores are enjoying another fine season, sweeping a doubleheader at Murray State on Saturday to remain in first place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings. Indiana State won its 20th game of the season March 30.

The 2012 Big Ten championship team won its 20th game on March 31 en route to setting a program record with 45 victories. This year marks the earliest on the calendar Purdue has reached the 20-win benchmark since that memorable campaign. The Boilermakers' 2022 team started the season 15-0 but did not reach 20 wins until April 9.

Tuesday's game will mark the first time Alexander Field has hosted a pair of 20-win teams prior to Jackie Robinson Day/Tax Day (April 15). The stadium opened in 2013. In the State of Basketball, Tuesday's game also features schools that produced finalists in the NCAA Tournament and National Invitational Tournament this year.

Purdue and Indiana State have both played in their fair share of close games as of late. All three of the Boilermakers' wins in New Jersey were decided by two runs. Dating back to the nightcap of the March 16 doubleheader with Samford, nine of Purdue's last 13 games have been decided by two runs or fewer. The Boilermakers are 4-5 in those close games. For the season, they're 4-7 in games decided by two runs or fewer and 14-3 in games decided by five runs over more.

The Sycamores have gone extra innings in three of their last six games. Since their March 22 conference opener, six of their last 11 games have been decided by two runs or fewer. They're 4-2 in those close games.

The first meeting in Terre Haute was decided by a tiebreaking run in the bottom of the eighth as ISU used a six-run fifth inning to overcome Purdue's early 5-1 lead, winning 8-7. Luke Gaffney connected for a three-run homer in the first inning, Keenan Spence's two doubles both led to runs and Logan Sutter also delivered an RBI double. Cole Van Assen (3 1/3 IP) and Aaron Suval (2 1/3 IP) teamed up for 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball as the Boilermakers' most effective pitchers on a hitter-friendly day in Terre Haute.

Suval was among the heroes of the series sweep at Rutgers, inducing a game-saving 4-6-3 double play with the bases loaded in the ninth inning of Friday's win and delivering a nine-out save to close out Sunday's finale. Dating back to March 26 at ISU, the senior has worked 9 1/3 innings of one-run relief over four appearances.

Couper Cornblum enters the week with 194 hits and 98 RBI in his five-year collegiate career. His 102nd career hit as a Boilermaker will give him 200 for his collegiate career. As the only Boilermaker to start every game since the beginning of the 2023 campaign, Purdue's center fielder is at 85 consecutive games started and on his way to becoming the latest player to start 100 straight contests.

The Boilermakers went 8-5 during their 13-game homestand in March and are now scheduled to play 17 of their final 24 regular-season games at Alexander Field.
