• College basketball's biggest non-conference game to date takes center stage this weekend as No. 3-ranked Purdue battles No. 1-ranked Arizona in Saturday's Indy Classic at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It marks the first time since November 2021 that two non-conference opponents ranked in the top three will square off in the regular season (Gonzaga vs. UCLA). It's only the seventh time since 2010-11 it has happened.
• Arizona enters the game ranked No. 1 in both the NCAA Net Rankings and AP Top 25 poll. It is Purdue's first game against the AP No. 1 ranked team since 2013, and the Boilermakers' last win against No. 1 came in Nov. 2000, against No. 1-ranked Arizona in Indianapolis (72-69).
• Purdue's schedule has been one of the toughest in the country according to KenPom.com, already having faced Marquette (#5), Tennessee (#9), Gonzaga (#12) and Alabama (#13). Arizona marks the fifth top-15 team the Boilermakers will have played.
• Including Saturday's game with No. 1 Arizona, there will have been nine games involving top-11 ranked teams so far this year. Purdue will have been involved in four of them (Arizona, Marquette, Tennessee, Gonzaga). Purdue and Arizona will face off in Las Vegas next season.
• Through games played Dec. 14, Purdue owns the most quad-1 wins (4), most quad-1 and 2 wins (6) and most quad-1, 2 and 3 wins (8). Colorado State is the only other team with at least seven quad-1, 2 and 3 wins combined. Purdue owns four of the Big Ten's nine non-con, quad-1 wins.
• The Boilermakers are finishing a nine-game stretch in which it played Xavier (4 seed in 2023 NCAAs), Gonzaga (ranked No. 11), Tennessee (ranked No. 7), Marquette (ranked No. 4), Texas Southern (2023 NCAA Tournament), Northwestern (2nd rd. in 2023 NCAA Tournament), Iowa (2023 NCAA Tournament), Alabama (1 seed in NCAA Tournament) and Arizona (currently ranked No. 1). Purdue is 7-1 in those games so far.
• Purdue has won 32 straight non-conference, regular-season games, the longest streak for any program in the country over the last eight years (31 by Villanova from 2015-18). It has been over three calendar years (Dec. 8, 2020 vs. Miami) since Purdue has lost in the non-con.
• Purdue and Arizona have been among the most successful teams nationally over the last three years. The two squads own the longest active non-conference, regular-season win streaks (Purdue - 32; Arizona - 19) and rank third (Arizona - 69) and fourth (Purdue - 67) among all teams in victories since the start of the 2021-22 season.
• Matt Painter (422 wins) needs one victory to tie Lou Henson (423) for fourth place on the Big Ten's all-time wins list. Painter has moved into sixth place on the Big Ten's list for conference wins with 210, tying Indiana's Branch McCracken (210) on the chart
• Zach Edey needs three rebounds to tie Terry Dischinger (958) for second on the career rebounding list. He also needs one block to tie Russell Cross (175) for fifth on the career blocks list. Edey joins former No. 1 NBA Draft pick Joe Barry Carroll and JaJuan Johnson in the Purdue's top 10 of career points, rebounds and blocked shots.
• Zach Edey was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the eighth time on Monday. He now ranks behind only Evan Turner on the list (10).
• Zach Edey and Braden Smith combined for 62 points against Alabama, the third-highest total for a Purdue duo since the 1979-80 season.
• Purdue was voted No. 1 in the AP Top 25 poll on Nov. 27, the third straight year that the Boilermakers have been ranked No. 1. Prior to the 2021-22 season, Purdue had never been ranked No. 1. Purdue is the first Big Ten program to be ranked No. 1 in three straight seasons.
