WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – All-American and NCAA Finalist Matt Ramos will wrestle in the NWCA All-Star Classic tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET as part of a star-studded lineup for one of the most highly anticipated events of the wrestling calendar every year.
The event, which dates back to 1967, features many of the best men's and women's college wrestlers in the country. Six of the 10 wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their weight class will compete in Penn State's Rec Hall Tuesday night live on FloWrestling.
Ramos will face off with the currently top-ranked Anthony Noto of Lock Haven. The junior finished fourth at the NCAA tournament last year to earn his first All-American medal. He is also a two-time NCAA qualifier and was named the Mid-American Conference's Wrestler of the Year in 2023.
It is yet another opportunity for Ramos to become battle tested as the season progresses. 28 of the 33 wrestlers ranked at 125 pounds are scheduled to appear in an event with the Boilermakers this season, including nine of the top 10.
The Lockport, Ill., native will be the fourth Purdue Wrestler to take part in the All-Star Classic. The program's last national champion Charles Jones was the first to do so in his title winning season in 1992. Ryan Lange was next in 2004 followed by A.J. Kissel in 2010.
While the match does not count toward the wrestlers' official records or RPI, Ramos is looking to be the first Boilermaker to come away with a win from the matchup.
