An action-packed weekend awaits the No. 25 Purdue Wrestling team with back-to-back days of competition in Journeymen wrestling events in Bethlehem, Pa.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An action-packed weekend awaits the No. 25 Purdue Wrestling team with back-to-back days of competition in Journeymen wrestling events in Bethlehem, Pa. on the schedule.

The fun begins on Saturday with Wranglemania, a series of duals featuring 10 division one programs. The Boilermakers will open their dual season with two showdowns in the afternoon, starting with a match against Army at 2:00 p.m. ET immediately followed by a big-time clash with No. 3 N.C. State at 4:00 p.m. ET.

Then on Sunday the Boilermakers take the mat once again for the Journeymen Collegiate Classic, a round robin style tournament that splits the field up into pools rather than full brackets. The groups for the event have been released and can be found here.

Both days will stream live on FloWrestling with stats for the round robin on FloArena. Follow @PurdueWrestling  on Twitter (X) and Instagram for live updates of every match all season.

WRANGLEMANIA WRAP AROUND Head coach Tony Ersland's Boilermaker squad rejoined the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) dual rankings for the first time in over a year this week, taking the No. 25 spot. They will look to continue to rise up the ranks with two tough dual opponents ahead in Army and No. 3 N.C. State.

The Boilermakers have only wrestled a combined nine times against both the Black Knights and the Wolfpack. The series between Purdue and Army is split at three wins apiece, but the team from West Lafayette has won the last two matchups. The programs last squared off in Troy, N.Y., in November of 2012 with the Boilers coming out on top 23-12.

All three of the bouts with the Wolfpack have come this century, a surprise for two programs with such rich history. The Boilermakers took back-to-back wins in 2006 and 2007 before N.C. State got one on the board in 2018.

LAST TIME OUT Purdue Wrestling traveled to the Clarion Open to kick-off its 2023-24 season and came home with seven placewinners from the packed field. Ramos and Buell led the way for the Boilermakers with third place finishes. Rowley took fourth in his first action in the old gold and black.

Four more Boilermakers fought their way to the podium as Michael Leveille, Joey Blaze, Cooper Noehre and Brody Baumann all took fifth place. Eight wrestlers made their varsity debuts today. The group combined for an 18-13 record with four pins, two tech falls and a major decision. Purdue had eight wins by fall on the day.
SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED Ersland welcomed Chris Coates, Wyatt Krejsa, and Isaiah Quintero to the Boilermaker family last week as the 2024 Purdue Wrestling signing class. A group that is smaller in numbers more than makes up for it in talent and pedigree and is trending to give Ersland his seventh top-25 recruiting class.

The group combined holds four state titles and two runner up finishes already with senior seasons still to come. Quintero and Coates come in as the No. 49 and No. 80 ranked prospects in the class, giving Ersland 20 top-100 recruits in his 10 years as head coach at Purdue.
NEWS & NOTES • Head coach Tony Ersland is entering his 10th season at the helm of Purdue Wrestling and holds a 74-66 dual record.
