DES MOINES, Iowa – Junior Payne Turney ran the fastest 1,500-meter time in program history in more than seven years as the Purdue track & field team continued the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 27, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Turney entered the top-10 list at No. 8 in the 1,500m and was one of four Boilermakers to place in the top six on Thursday at Drake Stadium. Purdue had entrants in seven events on the second day of the nationally-renowned meet.

With the fastest time by a Purdue runner in the event since 2016, Turney finished with a time of 4:23.60, eighth-fastest all-time. It's the fourth top-10 time in the 1,500m since 2007. Turney was fourth overall and earned the fastest time among collegiate runners.

Thursday began with the heptathlon, where freshman Bryanna Craig earned a personal-best 5,411 points to conclude the event. Craig finished fourth overall and first among collegians during the two-day, seven-event competition. She entered the day in fifth place, but a first-place finish in the 800m to conclude the day with a personal-best 2:15.54 propelled her into fourth. Craig's day began with a long jump mark of 5.55 meters-w and a javelin throw of 34.14m.

In the day's final event, sophomore Jason Polydoris made his collegiate debut in the 10,000m and was fifth overall in 30:20.48. Junior Caroline Jordan also ran her first collegiate 10,000m and was sixth in 35:56.17. Additionally, senior Bryce Hutchinson notched his first 10,000m with a time of 30:33.96.

Two Boilermakers, sophomore Brady Yoder and freshman Kiefer Bell, ran personal-best times. Yoder's came in the 5,000m (14:23.20) and Bell's was in the 1,500m (3:51.31).

The Drake relays continue on Friday, April 28, as the 4x1600 relay begins the day for the Boilermakers at 12:59 p.m. ET / 11:59 a.m. CT, and the team's last event is the 4x200 relay at 8:34 p.m. ET / 7:34 p.m. CT. A busy Saturday, April 29, begins for Purdue at 11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT with the long jump, and the team's meet concludes with the 4x400 at 5:05 p.m. ET / 4:05 p.m. CT.
