WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue softball team (15-16, 0-3 Big Ten) is set for the second week of conference action, with a midweek doubleheader vs. Indiana on Wednesday followed by a three-game series at Rutgers over the weekend.

The Boilermakers continue one of the toughest stretches among the league's schedules, with a season-opening gauntlet that includes competition against three of the Big Ten's top-4 teams, with two of the three coming in true road game fashion. 

After coming off a three-game series at Nebraska, Purdue will take on No. 24 Indiana in a doubleheader which will air on Big Ten Network. The games will be played at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET at Bittinger Stadium. Admission is free for all fans. Then, the Boilermakers will head to the east coast to challenge the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a Friday-Sunday series.

THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE
• The Boilermakers are set to take on the three of the top four batters in the Big Ten this week in No. 2 Kinsey Mitchell (Indiana, .450 batting avg.), No. 3 Taryn Kern (Indiana, .434 batting avg.) and Kyleigh Sand (Rutgers, .413
batting avg.).
• Moreover, Purdue will see the top-5 run-producers in the league with No. 1 Sand (Rutgers), No.2 Kern (Indiana), No. 3 Payton Lincavage (Rutgers), No. 4 Cora Bassett (Indiana), No. 5 Morgan Smith (Rutgers).

STEPPING UP: SHORTSTOP TYRINA JONES
• Jones leads the team in virtually every category including batting avg. (.368), runs (21), hits (39), RBI (24) and slugging % (.585).
Tyrina Jones earned her first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor on March 6 following an impressive performance which saw a .533 batting avg., two home runs, six RBI and eight hits. Jones scored the game-winner in all three Purdue victories that week, and had a hand in every run scored in the 4-0 victory at UNC (3/4).
• Overall, Jones ranks eighth in the Big Ten in home runs and total bases. Meanwhile, she is 14th in batting avg.
• Hit above .400 for 12 consecutive games during non-conference play.
• She joins elite company alongside Purdue alums All-American Rachel Becker (March 14, 2022), Jenny Behan (March 4, 2019) as the most recent Boilermakers to receive Big Ten Player of the Week honors.
• Jones' four hits vs. Syracuse (2/17) marked the second-most by a Boilermaker in a single game. It has happened 44 times in program history, last: two seasons ago by 2022 All-America Honorable Mention Rachel Becker, who posted four vs. Rutgers (2021).
• Jones' five RBI vs. Syracuse (2/17) was the third-most in a single game by a Boilermaker and most since 2021 (Ryleigh Scott at Michigan State, 4/23/21).

SCOUTING THE #24 INDIANA HOOSIERS
• The Hoosiers are on a 18-game winning streak with an 22-9 overall record heading into Wednesday's doubleheader.
• Indiana is a strong offensive team leading the conference with a team batting average (.335) and RBI (201) while being second in the league for total runs (213) and home runs (38).
• Leading the team in batting average and second in the conference is #24 Kinsey Mitchell (.450) followed by #9 Taryn Kern (.434) and #3 Taylor Minnick (.397).
• #16 Brianna Copeland leads the pitching staff with an ERA of 2.08 followed by #17 Heather Johnson (4.07).

SCOUTING THE RUTGERS SCARLET KNIGHTS
• Rutgers leads the Big Ten conference after their first series shutout against Illinois to open Big Ten play.
• Rutgers is on a nine-game win streak with an overall record of 26-10.
• The Scarlet Knights lead the conference in runs (216), hits (293), doubles (60) and triples (11) while being second with RBIs (196) and third in batting average (.312).
• #23 Kyleigh Sand leads the team in batting average (.413) followed by #1 Ryann Orange (3.16) and #37 Morgan Smith (.340).
• The pitching staff is led by #0 Raimy Gamsby with an ERA of 2.11 followed by #9 Jaden Vickers (3.26).
