SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team opened competition at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Friday evening.
The Boilermakers earned four personal-best times on the first day of the two-day meet at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center.
Freshman Jaylie Lohmeyer ran the 600-meter in 1:31.62, which is a personal-record time by nearly five seconds and just 0.12 seconds shy of one of the top 10 fastest times in Purdue history.
Sophomore Ezra Lewellen also set a new PR, with a mark of 6.87 in the 60m prelims. That was the fastest overall time among four prelim heats, as he and fifth-year Tyneilus Morrow qualified for Saturday's semifinal.
Senior Safin Wills and Morrow each registered third-place finishes on Friday, as Morrow claimed bronze in the 200m and Wills was third in the long jump.
In the 5,000m, junior Caroline Jordan improved her 5,000m personal-best time by more than 30 seconds. She was fourth overall in 17:07.34, which is the ninth-fastest time in the event in the Big Ten this season.
In his first collegiate 5,000m race, sophomore Jason Polydoris finished in 14:27.52, a time that ranks No. 6 in the Big Ten in 2022-23.
Lewellen also ran a collegiate-best time in the 200m, with a mark of 21.97.
The Meyo Invite concludes on Saturday, with Purdue's first running event at 10:10 a.m. ET and the opening field event is at 11 a.m. The meet will close with the 4x400 relay at 4 p.m.
