BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Three top-10 times in school history were set as the Purdue track & field team opened competition at the Indiana Invitational on Friday night in Bloomington, Indiana.
Junior Tyler Bowling and junior Bailey McIntire stamped their name in the Boilermaker record books in the 5,000 meters, while sophomore Jabari Bryant moved up in the 400m hurdles. Additionally, fifth-year senior Curt Eckstein and junior Camille Christopher won the 5,000m and 200m, respectively, at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex.
Eckstein posted the night's top time in the 5,000m, with a 13:51.33. The fifth-fastest time in the Big Ten this season, it is just shy of his personal-best mark that is No. 2 in school history. Bowling was fifth in 14:00.57, a time that is fourth in program history and the 10th-fastest in the Big Ten this season. With a PR of nearly 12 seconds, Bowling moved up from No. 10 in the record books. McIntire entered the charts at No. 9 with a time of 14:07.93. He PR'd by more than eight seconds and was seventh overall in Friday night's race.
Additionally, sophomore Blake Selm was eighth in 14:09.75. That would be No. 8 in school history entering the day, but is now just outside the top-10 thanks to Bowling and McIntire's finishes.
With a personal-best time, Bryant moved up one spot in the record books in the 400m hurdles. He finished third overall in the event in 51.63 to climb to No. 6 in team history.
The day began with the 200m, where Christopher picked up the win in 23.61. Sophomore teammate Saran Kouyeth was just behind her in second place in 23.75 to set a new PR in all conditions.
Junior Justin Becker was the runner-up in the men's edition of the 200m in 20.89, a personal-best time in all conditions and the eighth-fastest time in the Big Ten in 2022.
Personal-best marks also were set by sophomore Naomi Campbell (24.03, 200m) and freshmen Kaylah Lumsden (24.96, 200m) Ellie Tate (4:28.23, 1,500m) and Caleb Williams (9:14.72, 3,000m steeplechase). Sophomores K'Ja Talley (58.32, 400m hurdles) and Payne Turney (4:30.34, 1,500m) set a season-best marks.
On Saturday, action gets underway with field events at 11 a.m. ET and running events at 1:30 p.m. Competition at the Indiana Invitational will conclude at approximately 8 p.m.
