LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A top-10 time and 15 personal-best marks were the highlights for the Purdue track & field team at the Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday.
Freshman Brady Yoder entered the Boilermaker record books with the 10th-fastest time in program history in the 1,500 meters in the team's opening event on the track at Cardinal Track Stadium. Along with the 15 personal-best marks recorded by Purdue, three season-bests were registered on Saturday.
Yoder ran the 1,500m in 3:47.70, which ranks No. 10 all-time in the record books. Four of the top 10 times in program history have now been run by current Boilermakers, with five of the fastest 10 times set in the last year. Yoder's mark earned him a sixth-place finish in the event.
Additionally, freshman Nathan Walker (3:48.16, 7th), sophomores Alec Fleming (3:53.75, 13th) and Blake Selm and freshman Joey Kasch (3:58.11, 24th) joined Yoder with collegiate-record times. Sophomore Luke Upton (3:55.08, 17th) ran a season-best time as all six Boilermaker runners posted career or season-bests.
Senior Amir Harris was third in the 400m in 47.98 and junior Ife Oketona placed third in the long jump. Oketona's jump of 6.82m came on his third attempt. Additionally, freshman Tanya Pinthapataya notched a third-place showing in the triple jump on a personal-best jump of 11.57m on her second attempt.
Freshmen Henry H.L. Lewis and Kaylah Lumsden both posted a pair of PRs. In the 100m and 200m respectively, Lewis ran an 11.08 and 22.14, while Lumsden finished in 12.13 and 25.38.
Personal-bests also were recorded by freshmen Anne Busse (3.66m, pole vault), Grant Gogel (4.67m, pole vault), Ezra Lewellen (21.72, 200m), Brett Otterbacher (1:54.10, 800m), Tanya Pinthapataya (11.57m, triple jump) and Logan Sandlin (4.67m, pole vault). Junior Jessica Bray (3.96m, pole vault) and sophomore Emily Kim (5.30m, long jump) had season bests at U of L.
Up next, in the penultimate meet of the regular season, the Boilermakers head south to the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana, next weekend. The IU-hosted meet is set for April 22-23
