WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team began the outdoor season at a pair of meets on Friday, at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida, and the Blizzard Buster in Oxford, Ohio.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team began the outdoor season at a pair of meets on Friday, at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida, and the Blizzard Buster in Oxford, Ohio.
 
Sophomore My'Khiyah Williams won the high jump to lead the way as the Boilermakers added three second-place finishes and three third-place showings at the two meets.
 
Purdue's sprinters, jumpers and throwers competed on the opening day of the two-day Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Miami (Florida) at Cobb Stadium. The Boilermaker distance runners raced at Miami (Ohio) at the one-day Blizzard Buster at George L. Rider Track.
 
All three Boilermakers in the high jump cleared 1.66 meters to place in the top four at the Hurricane Invite. Williams earned the win, as her mark tied a personal-best. Senior Alexis Zatta placed second and junior Mackenzie Barrett was fourth, both on misses.
 
Junior Jessica Bray finished the day in Florida with a runner-up finish in the pole vault. She cleared 3.90m on her first attempt.
 
Freshman Alex Frey was second in the 1,500-meter in 3:52.09 at the Blizzard Buster. Fellow freshman Caleb Williams was right behind him in 3:52.98 to finish third. Both Frey and Williams were making their outdoor debuts as Boilermakers.
 
Also in Oxford, sophomore Luke Upton was third in the 800m in 1:55.27.
 
In Coral Gables, sophomore Kaia Harris claimed bronze in the discus. She earned a mark of 50.52m on her sixth and final throw.
 
At the Blizzard Buster, senior Megan Slamkowski ran a personal-best 1,500m time of 4:36.26 to open her outdoor campaign. Additionally, Bryce Hutchinson (3:58.26, 7th), Joey Kasch (3:59.68, 9th), Geno Christofanelli (4:02.87, 14th) and Ryan Ruppert (4:03.75, 16th) in the men's 1,500m and Lauren Bales (4:48.49, 17th), Caroline Jordan (4:48.60, 18th) and Haley Mansfield (4:58.56, 29th) in the women's 1,500m all ran in their first collegiate outdoor meet. Kasch also raced in the 800m (1:58.30, 6th)
 
The Hurricane Invitational concludes on Saturday in Coral Gables. Purdue's first field event commences at 12 p.m. ET, and running events start at 1 p.m. The final event is set for 3:35 p.m.
