WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Already a Purdue Hall of Famer, Stephanie White will be enshrined into another prestigious establishment in April, as the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame announced its 2022 induction class.
White will be the 15th Boilermaker from the women's basketball team to be inducted into IBHOF.
The 1995 Indiana Miss Basketball from Seeger High School set the state record for most points in a career with 2,869 and currently sits fourth all-time. Her 886 points as a senior in 1994-95 are sixth in single-season history, just 13 above Katie Gearlds' mark in 2002-03. White also has the second most points in a game in state history with 66 from Jan. 9, 1995, against Attica.
White's high school award list also included Gatorade National Player of the Year, USA Today National Player of the Year, WBCA All-America, MVP of the WBCA All-American Game and a three-time Associate Press Indiana All-State selection.
During her four-year career at Purdue, White averaged 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. She still ranks in the top five in over 20 career, season and single-game categories across the Purdue record book, including third in career points with 2,182 and tied for first with 707 points in a season, alongside Gearlds.
White was an integral part in leading the Boilermakers to a 34-1 record and the 1999 NCAA National Championship, still the only team from the Big Ten to win a national title. The Boilermakers won two Big Ten Tournament championships and two regular season titles during White's tenure.
In her senior season alone in 1998-99, White was named an All-American by the Associate Press and the WBCA, a member of the NCAA Final Four Team, NCAA All-Regional Team, Honda Award Winner, All-Big Ten Tournament Team and its Most Outstanding Player, the Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year, Big Ten Player of the Year, All-Big Ten, a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year, CoSIDA and GTE Academic All-American and Academic All-Big Ten.
The Charlotte Sting drafted White in the second round of the 1999 WNBA Draft, the first pick in program history. Following a six-year career in the WNBA, White moved into the coaching ranks, eventually winning a WNBA title as an assistant for the Indiana Fever in 2012 and reaching the finals in 2015 as the Fever's head coach. She also spent five seasons as the head coach at Vanderbilt.
White was inducted into the Purdue Hall of Fame in 2006.
