WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the first time in 624 days, the Purdue women's basketball team will officially play in front of the Boilermaker faithful at Mackey Arena, as head coach Katie Gearlds leads the squad into its home opener Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Western Michigan.
Matt Schumacker and Meghan McKeown will be on the call for the Big Ten Network, while Tim Newtown and Jane Schott will be on the air for the Purdue Sports Network on 95.3 BOB FM.

The Boilermakers ushed in the Katie Gearlds Era with a 79-69 win on the road at Western Michigan. Purdue shot 50% from the field in the second half to hold off the host Lady Toppers. Abbey Ellis pacced the Boilermakers with 17 points, while Madison Layden chipped in 13 and freshman Jayla Smith added 11. Five players made their Purdue debut to combine for 42 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

• Madison Layden moved into a tie with Katie Gearlds for the second longest 3-point streak at 22 games. The sophomore sits behind Ashley Morrissette's record of 25 games in a row.
• Jayla Smith tallied 11 points and four steals in her debut. She was one of nine rookies across the nation to post at least 10 points and four swipes in the opening week.
• Purdue knocked down 22 free throws and nine triples against Western Kentucky, marking just the second time the Boilermakers hit those numbers in the same game in the last 12 years.
• Purdue now has 888 all-time wins, sitting 12 away from the 900-wins club.
• Ten Boilermakers will make their debut in front of a filled Mackey Arena on Sunday. The six newcomers this season will play in Mackey for the first time, while Madison Layden, Rokia Doumbia, Brooke Moore and Ra Shaya Kyle played in front of an empty arena last season due to COVID-19 restrictions.
