GAMEDAY INFORMATION – FALL BALL EXHIBITION
John A. Logan at Purdue
Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. ET / Planned 14-Inning Game
Alexander Field / West Lafayette, Indiana
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball's busy final week of fall ball action begins Saturday with another 14-inning exhibition game vs. an opponent from southern Illinois as the Boilermakers host John A. Logan College.
Admission is again free at Alexander Field for the 1 p.m. Saturday matinee. The Boilermakers utilized a 10-man lineup and separate defensive alignment throughout last Saturday's exhibition vs. Wabash Valley, and are expected to do the same vs. John A. Logan.
The three-game Black & Gold Series brings fall ball to a close next week and is also open to the public. The intrasquad games are slated for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. With Purdue football's Saturday, Oct. 23 home game confirmed for a 3 p.m. ET kickoff, the finale of the Black & Gold Series is planned for a 10:50 a.m. first pitch (start time update Oct. 18). Thursday and Friday are expected to be 3 p.m. seven-inning games (start times updated).
Like Wabash Valley, John A. Logan College also calls the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and the NJCAA's Region XXIV home. Based in Carterville, Illinois – between Marion and Carbondale – the Volunteers were 42-18 last season while scoring over 500 runs in their 60 games. John A. Logan (the man) was a Civil War general and two-term U.S. Senator from southern Illinois, who later ran for Vice President in 1884. He was the driving force behind the U.S. Government recognizing Memorial Day as an official federal holiday.
PURDUE HIGHLIGHTS FROM OCT. 9 EXHIBITION GAME
• Jake Jarvis delivered a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning, plating catcher Pablo Lanzarote from first base.
• Kyle Wade retired all six batters he faced over two perfect innings of relief as the Boilermakers' second pitcher of the day.
• Paul Toetz reached base safely four times via two singles and two walks.
• Newcomers Curtis Washington Jr. and Pablo Lanzarote both singled and walked twice.
• Landon Weins worked two innings of one-hit relief against his former team, with catcher Jake Stadler cutting down a base stealer to erase the only runner Weins allowed to reach.
• Nolan Daniel, Griffin Lohman and Eric Hildebrand teamed up for three consecutive innings of hitless relief to finish off the game.
• Weston Gingerich made a nice diving catch in right field in the 14th inning.
