Boilermakers Host Saint Louis Sunday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue soccer team begins a three-match homestand on Sunday, September 5, at 1 p.m. ET against Saint Louis at Folk Field.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue soccer team begins a three-match homestand on Sunday, September 5, at 1 p.m. ET against Saint Louis at Folk Field.
 
Admission is free for all fans to every regular-season home match in 2021. As part of Kids Take Over, there will be activities on and off the pitch for younger Boilermaker fans on Sunday. There will be a bounce house and Kona Ice, kids will have the chance to participate in on-field games during halftime and more.
 
University, local and state health guidelines will be followed on game day. Updates will be provided by Purdue Athletics, if necessary. A clear bag policy will be implemented for all events in Purdue Athletics facilities this year, and information can be found at PurdueSports.com/ClearBag.

The Boilermakers enter the matchup with a 2-1-2 record after they suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday, a 1-0 defeat at Notre Dame. Purdue is 2-0-1 at home and has won two in a row at Folk Field.
 
Through the first five matches of the season, the Boilermakers lead the Big Ten with 5.40 saves per match, and they are No. 5 in total assists (9), save percentage (.871) and shot accuracy (.484). Individually, senior goalkeeper Marisa Bova is No. 3 nationally with 490:00 minutes played, and senior forward Sarah Griffith is No. 19 in the NCAA in goals, with four, and No. 25 in shots on goal per match, with 2.40. Bova also leads the Big Ten in saves (27), is second in saves per match (5.40) and fourth in save percentage (.871). Griffith is fourth in shots per match (4.60) and sixth in total points (8).
 
The Billikens, who won the Atlantic 10 Championship and made the NCAA Tournament last season, are 1-4 following a 1-0 loss to Louisville on Thursday. Saint Louis' 2020 campaign, contested in the spring of 2021, was highlighted by a 15-1-1 record.
 
LAST TIME OUT: UNBEATEN STREAK SNAPPED
Purdue's season-opening unbeaten streak was snapped with a 1-0 loss at Notre Dame on Sept. 2. The Boilermakers were shut out for the first time this year as the Fighting Irish used a 59th-minute goal to remain undefeated.
 
Purdue had six shots, four on goal, while Notre Dame had 10 shots and five shots on goal. UND earned nine corner kicks to the Boilermakers' one. Griffith registered a match-high four shots with two shots on goal and Bova made four saves.

SERIES HISTORY VS. SAINT LOUIS
Purdue is 0-0-1 all-time against Saint Louis following a 0-0, double-overtime draw in 2019 in Missouri. SLU had a 16-14 advantage in shots, and Purdue held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal in the September 15 matchup. Griffith and Leanna Rebimbas each had a team-high three shots and one shot on goal, while Bova made seven saves to earn the shutout.
 
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS
Saint Louis comes to West Lafayette with a 1-4 mark and a 1-1 record on the road. Prior to Thursday's 1-0 loss at home to Louisville, the Billikens dropped a 2-0 decision at Kansas on August 26 and registered a 2-0 victory at Illinois State on August 29.
 
In the Atlantic 10 rankings, SLU is fourth in goals-against average (1.00) and save percentage (.808). Goalkeeper Emily Puricelli is second in the league with 450:00 minutes played, and she is third in save percentage (.808) and fourth in goals-against average (1.00), total saves (21) and shutouts (1).

Purdue has a pair of home matches on tap next weekend, beginning against Kansas State on Thursday, September 9, at 7 p.m. ET. The Boilermakers then host Colorado on Sunday, September 12, at 1 p.m. Admission at Folk Field is free for all fans at every regular-season home match in 2021.
