WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball's consecutive weekend road trips this month takes the team to the East Coast and Upper Midwest, beginning with the Boilermakers' third trip to the Beltway for a three-game series at Maryland.

First pitch at Turtle Smith Stadium in College Park is slated for 6:30 p.m. ET on Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Purdue swept a three-game set at UMD in April 2018 and the road team has won seven of the nine regular-season meetings in the series since the Terrapins joined the Big Ten for the 2014-15 school year.

The Boilermakers visit the Twin Cities next weekend for their final road games of the season. Since 2015, Purdue has played fewer games vs. Minnesota and Maryland than any other Big Ten rivals.

Maryland is 11-3 at home this season and has compiled a 19-9 record since starting the season 2-5. Like Greg Goff, UMD skipper Rob Vaughn was elevated to head coach after the man who brought him to campus – John Szefc in College Park – departed for another head coaching job. Vaughn took over in 2018 after five seasons as a UMD assistant and is said to be the youngest Power Five head coach in the country.

Purdue's sweep at Maryland in April 2018 ignited a 13-game win streak, which matched a program record, and the memorable 21-2 stretch that carried the team into an NCAA Regional. The Boilermakers had to rally to win games 2 and 3 of the series. They overcame deficits of 4-0 and 6-2 in Sunday's win. Skyler Hunter's two-run single highlighted a five-run seventh inning that day in College Park. The switch-hitter finished the weekend 6-for-14 with no strikeouts.

Ben Nisle homered in Sunday's win, but the true home run heroics that weekend came from Jacson McGowan, who went deep in the ninth and 11th innings of Saturday's victory. That remained Purdue's last multi-homer game until Nisle did it two weekends ago in the May 2 win at Ohio State. Current assistant coach Harry Shipley also homered in the middle game of the 2018 series.

The Boilermakers were slated to host Maryland in May of last season before the shutdown wiped out the entire Big Ten schedule. The Terps have still only made one trip to Alexander Field since joining the league, tied for the fewest of any Big Ten team during that span.

SIMINGTON STREAKING INTO THE 20s
Miles Simington has become the 23rd Boilermaker since 2001 to record a reached base safely streak of at least 20 games. He's been on base in 21 straight and 31 of Purdue's first 32 games this season. The outfielder has recorded 10 multi-hit efforts (all two-hit games) during the streak while only going hitless three times. Three of those multi-hit efforts have been two-double games.
Simington has reached base safely multiple times in 18 of the 21 games. He has been on base three times in a game five times during the streak. During the Illinois series (April 23-25), he was on base twice in all three games.
With 28 hits and 17 free passes, he has reached base safely 45 times during the streak. He's recorded more walks (9) than strikeouts (8) during the surge.
• Simington's Streak: .350/.455/.600, 28-for-80, 11 2B, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 9 BB, 8 HBP, 16 R, 8 K

CLOSE UP ON BOLTON'S STREAK AS A STARTER
Mike Bolton Jr. has also put together an impressive on-base streak, reaching safely multiple times in each of the last nine games he has started dating back to April 17. In the process, he has played his way into a role as Purdue's regular designated hitter. The speedy outfielder has reached base safely at least three times in six of the nine games during the streak.
With 10 hits and 15 free passes, Bolton has reached base 25 times during his streak. He's also 9-for-9 in stolen bases during the surge, improving to 11-for-11 in steals for the season. He enters the weekend third in the Big Ten in stolen bases.
• Bolton's Streak: .357/.581/.393, 10-for-28, 2B, RBI, 5 R, 11 BB, 4 HBP, 9-9 SB
