The Boilermakers (3-3-1) are unbeaten in their last three matches after a 1-1 draw at home to Ohio State on Thursday. The Spartans (1-4-1) are coming off an eight-day break from competition after a 7-3 loss at Michigan on March 12.
 
Purdue is fourth in the Big Ten in shots per match, with 11.43, and fifth in total assists (9) and assists per match (1.29). The Boilermakers have scored eight goals and have 25 points with 80 shots, 33 on goal.
 
Individually, freshman forward Nicole Kevdzija is second in the conference with two match-winning goals, and redshirt junior forward Sarah Griffith also is No. 2 in the Big Ten with four goals. Griffith is third in the league with 3.43 shots per match, fifth with 0.57 goals per contest and sixth with nine total points.
 
Along with her team-best four goals and nine points, Griffith paces the squad with 24 shots and 10 shots on goal. Kevdzija is second with three goals, seven points and seven shots on goal, while freshman midfielder Emily Mathews has a team-best two assists and is third in shots (7) and shots on goal (2). In goal, junior Marisa Bova has played all 662 minutes and has allowed seven goals with 22 saves for a 0.95 goals-against average and a .759 save percentage. She has two shutouts and also has an assist.
 
Griffith has scored in back-to-back matches and in three of Purdue's last four contests. She enters Sunday's match with a four-match point streak.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. MICHIGAN STATE
Purdue is 9-10-2 all-time against Michigan State after a 2-0 road loss in 2019. The series is knotted at 4-4-2 in West Lafayette.
 
In last season's defeat, Julia Ware led the team with two shots and Aly Mielke and Grace Walsh each had shots on goal. Purdue had eight shots, two on goal, and MSU had 12 shots and six shots on goal. Bova made four saves.
 
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Michigan State comes to West Lafayette with a 1-4-1 record and an 0-3-1 mark on the road after a 7-3 defeat at Michigan on March 12. The Spartans have lost four in a row after they opened the year with a draw at Maryland and a win over Nebraska. The team's match vs. Indiana on Wednesday, March 17, was postponed.
 
MSU leads the Big Ten with 5.33 saves per match and is No. 6 in total goals (8), goals per match (1.33) and fouls per contest (9.17). The Spartans have five total assists and 21 points.
 
LAST TIME OUT: GRIFFITH SCORES AGAIN AS BOILERS TIE BUCKEYES
Purdue extended its unbeaten streak to three consecutive matches with a 1-1 draw against Ohio State on March 18 at the Mollenkopf Athletic Center. Griffith scored less than four minutes into the match for the Boilermakers, but the Buckeyes found the equalizer in the 81st minute to avoid being shut out for the first time this season.
 
Purdue had a 15-13 advantage in shots and Ohio State, which is receiving votes in several national polls, held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Through the opening 66 minutes of play, the Boilermakers had 11 shots and the defense limited the Buckeyes to one, while OSU then had a 12-4 shot advantage in the final 55 minutes of action. Bova made several big saves and stopped five of the six shots she faced, all in the final 40 minutes.
 
Griffith, Kevdzija and Mathews all had three shots and Kevdzija had a team-high two shots on goal.
