Martin Begins Competition at NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Purdue track & field junior Isaiah Martin competed in the first four events of the heptathlon on Thursday to open the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Purdue track & field junior Isaiah Martin competed in the first four events of the heptathlon on Thursday to open the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
 
Through four of seven heptathlon events, Martin is in 14th place with 3,060 points.
 
Martin began the day with the 60-meter dash, where he finished in 7.22 seconds. Just 0.03 seconds shy of his personal-best mark in the event, Martin placed 15th.
 
In the long jump, Martin recorded a mark 7.02 meters on his third and final jump to finish 14th.
 
The third event of the day was the shot put, where Martin was 11th with a throw of 13.33 meters. His best throw came on his third attempt, after he recorded marks of 13.24m and 13.11m on his opening two throws.
 
Martin's best finish came in the high jump, where he cleared 1.94 meters to place 10th. The jump came on his third attempt at the height.
 
The heptathlon concludes tomorrow with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. ET.
 
One of five Boilermakers competing at the national championships meet, Martin is joined by seniors Brian Faust, Tamar Greene and Alexis Zatta and sophomore Marcellus Moore.
 
The NCAA Championships continue on Friday, March 12, beginning with Martin in the final three heptathlon events. Then, Faust runs in the 400-meter semifinals at 3:25 p.m. and Moore races in the 60-meter semis at 3:45 p.m. Zatta also competes on Friday in the high jump finals at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Greene competes in the triple jump at 2 p.m., while the 400 and 60 finals are set for 3:20 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
