WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the second consecutive year, the Purdue volleyball team was awarded the AVCA Team Academic Award by the United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the 2019-2020 season.
The distinction honors collegiate and high school volleyball programs that maintain a year-long grade-point average of a 3.30 or higher. The Boilermakers earned a 3.43 cumulative GPA, following a spring semester that saw six student-athletes earn perfect 4.0 GPAs.
The AVCA Team Academic Award was earned for the third time in program history, having received the distinction in 2019 and 1997. In total, Purdue is one of 12 Big Ten programs recognized.
The award comes following three student-athletes: Hayley Bush, Marissa Hornung and Emma Terwilliger being named to the 2019-20 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars award earlier this month and eight to the Academic All-Big Ten honors, announced in December 2019.
