WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A trio of Boilermakers were named to four preseason watch lists this week.
Sophomore defensive end George Karlaftis and senior defensive tackle Lorenzo Neal were named players to watch by the Football Writers Association and the Charlotte Touchdown Club for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is presented annually to the top defensive player in the nation.
The FWAA also added Neal to the Outland Trophy watch list, presented annually to the top interior lineman on either side of the ball.
Sophomore Rondale Moore earned watch list honors from both the Paul Hornung Award, presented to the nation's most versatile athlete by the Louisville Sports Comission, and the Maxwell Award, which is given to the most outstanding player in college football by the Maxwell Football Foundation.
For Karlaftis, who led Purdue with 17.0 tackles for loss and tied for the team lead with 7.5 sacks as a true freshman, The Nagurski Trophy list becomes the third national award keeping tabs on him, along the with Lott IMPACT Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award.
Moore is on the watch lists of three major national awards, as well, having been cited as a player to keep tabs on by the Biletnikoff Award last week.
Neal, a three-year starter for the Boilermakers, is looking to make his return in 2020 after missing the entire 2019 campaign due to injury.
