WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue All-American Blake Mohler set her sights on Germany after signing a professional contract with Bundesliga's VfB 91 Suhl volleyball team.
Mohler, a December 2019 Purdue graduate, secured her contract in one of the top European leagues following a pair of All-America nods and two first team All-Big Ten accolades during her collegiate career. With the middle blocker's signing, Mohler becomes the sixth Boilermaker since 2016 to sign a professional contract, joining the ranks of Sherridan Atkinson, Ashley Evans, Azariah Stahl, Danielle Cuttino and Annie Drews.
"I found an awesome agent on Monday and within the week he had me a deal," said Mohler. "It's crazy to think how fast all of this happened, but I am so excited to be playing the sport that I love. I'm so ready to head overseas and play at the next level in a such a beautiful country. It doesn't seem real that I'm finally doing something I've always dreamed of. I am beyond thankful for all of the people who helped shape me into the player I am today. They are the ones I play for."
Mohler concluded the 2019 season with a team-best in total blocks (139), solo blocks (22) and blocks per set (1.23). She also ranked second on the team with a .333 hitting percentage, while rating third with 240 kills and 319.5 points. The 2019 first team All-Big Ten honoree had 12 matches where she hit .400 or better and eight matches with at least five blocks. A four-year starter for the Boilermakers, Mohler completed her collegiate career with 976 career kills and 497 blocks.
"I am thrilled for Blake as she continues her volleyball journey in a very competitive German league," said head coach Dave Shondell. "Few Boilermakers have matched the mental toughness that the Bayou Bomber demonstrated during her All-America career at Purdue. That same determination will allow Blake to flourish at the professional level. Blake always gave her very best for our team. Her speed, power, and relentless pursuit will allow her to transition to the next level."
The middle blocker out of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, will join a young Wolf Pack team that is headed by Hungary native Laszlo Hollosy.
