Purdue Jumps Up in National Rankings, is No. 1 in Men’s 60

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Highlighted by a No. 1 ranking in the men's 60-meter dash and 12 ranked individuals, the Purdue track & field team moved up in this week's Track & Field National Rating Index.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Highlighted by a No. 1 ranking in the men's 60-meter dash and 12 ranked individuals, the Purdue track & field team moved up in this week's Track & Field National Rating Index.
 
Both the men's and women's squads rose in the national rankings, while the Boilermakers now have five top-15-ranked individuals and seven women's and five men's events ranked in the top-25. The No. 1-ranked men's 60-meter squad includes junior Waseem Williams, whose Big Ten-record time of 6.58 seconds is the fourth-fastest time in the country this season.
 
The Purdue men jumped up to No. 32 nationally, while the women climbed to No. 52. The men are No. 2 in the Great Lakes Region and up to No. 4 in the Big Ten Conference, while the women check in at No. 7 in the region and rose to No. 8 in the Big Ten.
 
The sixth week of rankings were announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
 
A total of 12 Boilermakers are ranked in the individual event rankings, with two in the top-six and five in the top-15.
 
Williams is fourth in the country in the 60-meter dash thanks to his time of 6.58 at the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 29. Williams set a Big Ten, Purdue and facility record while winning the Big Ten title in the event.
 
Senior Janae' Moffitt also won a Big Ten championship on Saturday in the high jump and moved up to No. 6 nationally in the event. The championship-winning jump of 1.82 meters gave Moffitt her third career indoor high jump Big Ten title.
 
Senior Samson Colebrooke checks in at No. 12 in the 200-meter dash. In Friday's Big Ten prelims, he finished in 20.80 seconds, the third-fastest time in the event in program history. Colebrooke won bronze in the final on Saturday.
 
In Saturday's 400-meter final, junior Brian Faust broke his own school record for the third time this season with a time of 46.15 to take home a bronze medal. Faust is ranked No. 15 nationally in the event.
 
Sophomore Isaiah Martin joined Williams and Faust with school-record performances at the Big Ten Championships thanks to a heptathlon mark of 5,631 points. The total is No. 15 in the nation as Martin placed third at the conference championship.

In the team event rankings, the men are ranked in 11 events and the women in 10. The men lead the way at No. 1 in the nation in the 60-meter dash and are in the top-25 in the 200-meter (No. 10), 5,000-meter (No. 12), 3,000-meter (No. 19) and long jump (No. 17). The women are led by a No. 11-ranking in the high jump and also are in the top-25 in the 60-meter hurdles (No. 16), 200-meter (No. 22), 400-meter (No. 24) and 60-meter (No. 25).

The indoor season concludes at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from March 13-14. Qualifiers to the event will be announced this week.
 
The Boilermakers won three Big Ten championships, by Moffitt and Williams and in the 4x400 relay, won a silver medal, courtesy of sophomore pole vaulter Jessica Bray, and totaled 24 top-eight podium finishes at the Big Ten Championships, from Feb. 28-29 in Geneva, Ohio. Purdue broke three school records, by Faust, Martin and Williams, and earned 21 marks that rank in the top-10 in school history. The men finished in sixth place with 54 points and the women were seventh, with 53 points. The men's squad finished in the top six for a second consecutive season and the third time in the last 10 years, while the women's seventh-place finish comes after they were 10th a year ago.
