IOWA CITY, Iowa – Four medals in the diving events, two freshman records and pair of victories in B finals highlighted the 2020 Big Ten Championships for Purdue women's swimming & diving.
Sixteen Boilermakers scored in at least one individual event. Headlined by Diver of the Championships Emily Bretscher, all four Purdue divers scored in all three diving events. Bretscher was the Big Ten champion on 3-meter and finished among the top six in all three events in the dive well. Maycey Vieta (silver) and Maggie Merriman (bronze) both medaled on the tower. Senior Emily Meaney finished among the top five on both 1-meter and 10-meter.
With four of the top six finishers on the platform, the divers racked up an amazing 105 team points in the event. Overall, they accounted for 207 points in the three diving events.
Mallory Jump (100 butterfly) and Kendra Bowen (100 freestyle) took down Purdue freshman records, both of which had stood for at least five years. Bowen also contributed to a team-high four relays, all but the 200 medley.
Jinq En Phee and Meaney scored at Big Tens for the fourth consecutive year. Meaney finished among the top four in the platform championship final all four years. She and Bretscher both scored in all three diving events for the second time in their careers.
Current juniors Maizie Seidl, Gretta DeCoursey, Evan King and Bretscher all have an opportunity to be four-year scorers at Big Tens next season.
