MADISON, Wisc. – When the ball left her hands, Dominique Oden called game. With 11.8 seconds remaining, the senior drained a 3-pointer to send the Purdue women's basketball team to a 62-59 road win at Wisconsin. The last-second win lifted the Boilermakers to 16-10 on the year and 7-7 in Big Ten Conference play.
Oden and fellow Senior Ae'Rianna Harris powered the Boilermakers (16-10, 7-7) with 36 combined points. Coming off the bench for just the second time this season, Harris went off to the tune of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Oden dropped 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including her lone triple of the night in the final seconds.
Purdue connected on 41.7% of its field goals and just a quartet of triples, with two of them in the fourth quarter. Fatou Diagne made the most of her season-high 27 minutes with eight points and nine rebounds.
After the Boilermakers opened a six-point lead heading into the fourth on an alley-oop from Cassidy Hardin to Oden, Wisconsin (11-14, 3-11) rallied to take the lead with four minutes to play. Hardin put the visitors up with a triple at the 3:58 mark, but Wisconsin tied it up on the ensuing possession.
Both clubs traded a pair of free throws, but Purdue's defense did not allow the Badgers to score in open play the rest of the game. Following Oden's go-ahead 3-pointer, the Boilermakers played vicious defense on the final possession, forcing Wisconsin into a desperate heave that was well off the mark.
ANOTHER RI-CORD
Harris etched her name into Purdue's record book yet again on Thursday night. The senior took sole possession of the Boilermakers' double-doubles title with the 28th of her career. Harris now owns the program career records for blocks, rebounds, and defensive rebounds, as well as the Purdue record for blocks in a career
QUOTABLES
Head coach Sharon Versyp after the game…
I'm incredibly proud of this team. We constant stood up to any run they made and found a way to win. Without Karissa tonight, we needed several players to step up, and we got just that out of Kayana, Cass and Fatou. As big as Nique's shot was, I was even more thrilled by the defense on that last possession.
On the play of the seniors…
I can't say enough about those two. Dominique and Ae'Rianna have been huge for us throughout their career. We needed a special performance from them to get the win on the road. They're finding another level as their final regular season comes to a close.
Dominique Oden on when the ball left her hands…
I knew it was good the second I released it. It felt good. It felt really good. I was excited to win this one on the road.
